The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (known as the FAFSA) is a form that can be prepared annually by students (undergraduate and graduate) in the United States to determine their eligibility for student financial aid (including the Pell Grant, Federal student loans and Federal Work-Study).

Do I have to pay to submit it?

NO! If you had to pay to submit, it was a scam!

Do I HAVE to do it?

In accordance with Texas Education Code (TEC), §28.0256, beginning with students enrolled in 12th grade during the 2021-2022 school year, each student must do one of the following in order to graduate:

  • Complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA);

  • Complete and submit a Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA); or

  • Submit a signed opt-out form.

When do I fill this form out?

The form becomes available each year on October 1, but you can start on the FAFSA ID now.

When is the deadline?

Priority Deadline: January 15

You may complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) between October 1 and midnight Central Time, June 30.

First come first serve! Most schools have a January 15 priority deadline.
